About Adult Faith Formation at Holy Trinity

In Adult Faith Formation we seek to foster the full flowering of the grace of Baptism and so to provide the Church with disciples who are well-formed in faith, enthusiastic, capable of leadership in the Church and in society, filled with compassion and working for justice – something the world desperately needs more of! We achieve this through the many different classes, bible studies, large & small events, retreats, workshops, vibrant Christian communities and outreach opportunities that we continually offer here at Holy Trinity. All of these are chosen & planned with a view to fostering:

           1. Communion & Intimacy with Jesus Christ
           2. Spiritual Growth
           3. Christian Community
           4. The desire to know and actively use one’s gifts in the service of others

Through this formation adult Catholics can experience God’s personal love which inspires and empowers them to become His living witnesses as they bring about the Kingdom of God in their families, homes, neighborhoods, places of work, and centers of culture.

Why participate in adult faith formation?
"The Church wishes to serve this single end: that each person may be able to find Christ, in order that Christ may walk with each person the path of life..." (St. John Paul II, Redeemer of Man, 13)

It has been the constant teaching of the church that to cultivate a relationship with God and grow in the life of grace, in addition to our sacramental life, we should continually engage in three interrelated spiritual practices: prayer, study and action. These three practices have been compared to a tripod or a 3-legged stool. Without all three legs the stool could not stand securely. It is the same with our life of faith, all three are equally important.

In prayer (piety) we speak to God and do our best to hear him speak to us.  But, in order to hear his voice clearly it helps to know how to discern his voice from all the other voices that compete for our attention.

By studying our Catholic Faith we give our minds to God as we make an intentional effort to come to know him through a deeper understanding of Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, which are his self-revelation to us. The Holy Spirit is right there with us. As we study He pours his life and his love and his truth into our minds and hearts and transforms them. This is a deeply moving experience!

Study combined with prayer prepares us for action in the world that is fruitful because it is done with God’s wisdom and power. Who doesn’t need that?

In adult faith formation we offer classes, retreats & events that focus on prayer, study & action, but we  specialize in the area of the 2nd leg of the tripod – STUDY.
