Prophetic Art: Holy Spirit & Art Ministry
The Holy Spirit speaks to us in a variety of ways; sometimes this He speaks to us through images. This class will focus on prayer with the Holy Spirit expressed visually to encourage, strengthen, and edify the body of Christ.
TESTIMONY FROM PREVIOUS SESSION
Each person's experience in the class is unique.
The testimony below shows how the Holy Spirit brought clarity and peace to a young adult who was experiencing a myriad of emotions after a significant loss.
This morning I went to an art class with my mom at our church and I went into it thinking it was going to be something totally different than what it was but it ended being so much better than what I expected. This class was a 3 step application/picture process:
-the first instructions we were given was to listen to God & choose a color he was telling us to pick not to just choose our favorite color and then to paint whatever design came to us. As you can see I felt he was telling me to choose the color blue and I painted blue wave like lines.
- the second instructions were for us to pick a word out of a bag & to paint what that word meant to us. My word was Thankfulness. Again as you can see,my second painting is just a bunch of different pictures that I felt came to my head when I thought of the word Thankfulness.
-the third instructions were to listen to God and let him speak to us through a word or phrase & then to paint what that word/phrase meant to us. The word(s) that came to me were emotions and the process of grief. My third picture was also a couple of different pictures put together like my second one.
At the end we were asked to share what our pictures meant & although I hate getting up and sharing I decided to do it anyways:
All of my pictures ended up relating to my brother which was no surprise to me. At first I didn't know what my first picture meant but by the time I explained my 2nd and 3rd pictures it helped explain my 1st.
My second picture was about the word 'Thankfulness.' For this picture I painted the # 22 because I am thankful for the 22 years I got to spend with my brother here on earth. I painted praying hands because my brother gets my prayers answered every day; I painted mountains because he has helped me overcome so many personal obstacles; an angel because he is my angel; a heart and an infinity sign because I know his love for me is infinite.
My third picture was about the words emotions and grief. I painted a heart in the middle with muscles coming out of one side representing the strength I have on my strong days, the tears on the bottom for the sadness that overcomes me on my hard days, a sunshine on the other side representing my happy and numb days, and arrows around the picture representing this recurring cycle Of emotions that I go through. The picture I painted was centered around a heart because I know that with my brother and Gods love I will be able to get through everything.
After explaining all of this, I knew what my first picture stood for and why I painted it. My brother always told me to "Ride the waves" and that's exactly what my story told through these pictures; I'm just riding the waves of emotions and taking them as they come, some may be bigger than others but no matter what the wave will pass.
If any of y'all have the opportunity to take an art class I would highly recommend it.
