Faith Formation
Here at Holy Trinity, we feel passionate about raising children to know Jesus Christ and the tenets of the Catholic faith. We want to do all we can to support this community, from the very youngest to the oldest, to make the most of every day in your journey with, towards and through Christ.
The Catholic Church has long called the family the domestic church and teaches that the Christian family is the first place for education in prayer. (The Catholic Faith Handbook for Youth, 313) Remember parents, that beautiful day your child was baptized and you promised to bring them up in the faith? Grandma and Grandpap, this promise never ends and carries over to your grandchildren! From tying shoes to algebra homework, there is no doubt that a parent’s role is fundamentally to equip their children with the knowledge and skills necessary to grow into capable adults. The Baptismal promise to entrust our children with the tenets of our faith is even more crucial than the more “practical” knowledge we frequently emphasize. The family has a unique privilege: transmitting the Gospel by rooting it in the context of profound human values. It is indeed, a Christian education more witnessed to than taught, more occasional than systematic, more ongoing and daily than structured into periods. (GDC 255) In other words, what your children see and hear day by day will have the greatest effect on their spiritual lives. How does this look in daily life? How about saying prayers at meals and bedtime? Read your favorite scripture stories at bedtime. Don’t have one? Now’s the time to get one! Look for and share your daily blessings. Obey the Commandments, and “Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.” Attend Mass every Sunday and receive the Sacraments. Participate in our adult faith classes or come be a part of our Journey program, being the example to your children and the children of Holy Trinity, of living your faith and continuing to seek a life in relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ There is one catch! A deepening faith doesn’t happen without effort. Much like anything else we strive for in life, it takes discipline and commitment. It takes time to make God a part of our daily routine. We must not allow ourselves to be distressed by what we may or may not have accomplished so far on the journey. Instead, we must trust in the steadfast love of a God who was willing to die for us and be willing to open our hearts to Him. Take a look around your dinner table, or the family photos around your home; you are the domestic church. You and yours have the ability to change the world in a generation. When you give Jesus Christ the opportunity to use you for the glory of His kingdom, the results are breathtaking. When this becomes the face of Catholicism to the world there will be no denying the Truth for which we stand! |
